New Buena Park Ordinance

Feb 2, 2024 | Library

Buena Park passed a new Ordinance enacting increased Just Cause protections for tenants effective August 1, 2023.

While Buena Park has essentially copied most of the California’s Tenant Protection Act (TPA), there are some important differences which relate to increased relocation in some instances, slightly different disclosures, increased requirements for Substantial Remodel Just Cause, and the possibility of penalties for non-compliance.

Landlords should review the ordinance and protections before proceeding with Just Cause cases to ensure that they comply with Buena Park. This is especially true for any termination under Substantial Remodel as this is where the Ordinance is most distinguished from the TPA.

The passage of Buena Park’s Just Cause should remind all owners of the continuous need to be aware in the communities where you manage properties. The expansion of Just Cause, rent control, tenant protections, and other ordinances are becoming ever more prevalent.
